Not Your Mom’s Macaroni Necklace

Mother’s day is just around the corner, and for the love of all that is good, do not wait until the last minute to get your mom a gift.

She has done everything for you. From decrusting your bread to helping you with your tax returns, she’s been there. And even though you should be doing it every day, it’s time to show some extra, premeditated love.

To help out, we’ve created some guidelines on how to properly show your Mama some appreciation.

Our Favorite Go-Tos:

1. Outch Ointment

We hate to toot our own horns, but we make a pretty fabulous product. Outch will address the literal pain in your Mom’s side… back,  foot, or joints. Wherever she decides to use it, the CBD salve or roll-on gel can help alleviate pain, reduce inflammation, and improve circulation. (Get 15% off a gift for your mom. Enter: MAMA during checkout).

2. Lush Bath Bombs

Lush products are ethically made from fresh, organic products, AND they’ve got a whole Mother’s Day line! Mom’s not into baths? That’s fine! They’ve got a slew of other pampering products as well.

3. Wine of the Month Subscription

Sometimes you just need a glass of wine to unwind. This list gives 22 of the best wine clubs you can sign your Mom up for. If you’re lucky, she might invite you over to share a glass.

4. Foam Roller

Bear with us. A foam roller doesn’t sound like the most thoughtful gift, but it will change your life. You may need to share a diagram or YouTube video with your mom if she’s never seen or used one before, but trust us, she will thank you.

5. Oil Diffuser

Essential oils can lift your mood and improve overall wellness. Purchasing an oil diffuser and essential oils like lavender, eucalyptus, and peppermint are meant to deepen your sleep, reduce stress, and boost your immune system. Added bonus—they make your home smell fantastic.

6. Adult Coloring Books

Not all self-care has to do with exercise or lathering something on your body. Find an adult coloring book that pairs with her favorite movie or book like The Princess Bride or Pride & Prejudice.

7. When All Else Fails

If you live close by (even within a couple of hours), schedule time to make your Mom’s favorite dinner for her AND THEN clean all the dishes. Even the dishes that might have been in the sink before you got there. Let her talk about herself and thank her for being such an awesome person.

Our “Oh No You Didn’t” List:

  • Unless you are under the age of 13 or an artisan, do not give your mother something handmade. It is sentimental, but she already has years of that stockpiled somewhere. Do not add to that pile.

  • Don’t buy her dying flowers. Instead, give her something that will live, like a lovely orchid or an adorable succulent.

  • Remember the gift you got her last year? Yeah? Don’t get it again. Show her you put thought into each gift you give.

  • Say no to candles. SNL did a whole skit about the ubiquity of candle giving. You can (and will!) do better.

  • Absolutely no gift cards! No exceptions. Unless maybe you are gifting her a nice spa day.

Now that you’re armed with some stellar ideas and the proper gift-giving guidelines, you’re ready. Shop confidently and give your mom her best Mother’s Day yet!
